»Journey To The Centre Of The Earth« ist das zweite Soloalbum von Rick Wakeman. Der englische Keyboarder, Songwriter, Moderator, Schauspieler und Autor wurde vor allem als Mitglied der Progressive-Rock-Band Yes bekannt sowie für seine Soloprojekte. Zudem spielte er als Sessionmusiker bereits für Künstler wie David Bowie, T. Rex, Elton John und Cat Stevens.
Mit »Journey To The Centre Of The Earth (Remastered)« gibt es jetzt eine neu eingespielte und überarbeitete Version seines Albums, das ursprünglich bereits 1974 erschienen war.
Dabei handelt es sich um den Livemitschnitt eines Konzertes am 18. Januar 1974 in der Royal Festival Hall in London. Basierend auf dem gleichnamigen Roman von Jules Verne erzählt Wakeman die Geschichte des Geologieprofessors Lidenbrock, seinem Neffen und ihrem Guide, die gemeinsam zum Mittelpunkt der Erde reisen.
Unterstützung erhielt Wakeman bei seinem Konzert vom London Symphony Orchestra, dem English Chamber Choir sowie von einigen persönlich ausgewählten Musikern. Der Schauspieler David Hemmings erzählt die Geschichte.
»Journey To The Centre Of The Earth (Remastered)« ist in mehreren Formaten erhältlich. Neben der Standard-CD, einer LP- sowie einer Doppel-LP-Version auf 180-g-Vinyl gibt es ein Set aus CD und DVD sowie ein Set aus 3 CDs plus DVD.
