Rainbow wurden 1975 von Ritchie Blackmore gegründet, nachdem er Deep Purple verlassen hatte. Schnell war klar, dass er mit Rainbow nicht weniger Erfolg haben sollte. Die Band veröffentlichte eine Reihe von Hit-Alben mit ständig wech-selnden Line-Ups. Auf »Live In Munich 1977« hört man ein Line-Up mit Sänger Dio und Schlagzeuger Powell. Blackmore erreichte München mit großer Verspätung, woraufhin die Show in München einen Tag verschoben werden musste. Die Band schien hierdurch wie aufgestachelt und spielte eines der denkwürdigsten Konzerte ihrer Karriere.
