Musiker, Sänger, Produzent, Toningenieur und Progressive-Rock-Ikone Steven Wilson stellt 2021 sein mit Spannung erwartetes neues Album vor.

»The Future Bites« heißt der mittlerweile sechste Sololongplayer des Briten, der Nachfolger von »To The Bone« aus dem Jahr 2017.

Insgesamt neun neue Songs hat Wilson dafür geschrieben, aufgenommen und zusammen mit David Kosten (Bat For Lashes, Everything Everything) produziert.

Inhaltlich dreht sich die Platte vor allem um die Süchte des 21. Jahrhunderts. »The Future Bites« erkundet den menschlichen Verstand in Zeiten des Internets und blickt neugierig in die Zukunft.

Wie das neue Album klingt, verriet der Musiker vorab mit dem rund zehnminütigen Track »Personal Shopper«, der im März erschien.

Eine Zeitlose Soundorgie

Ich wette, dass dieses Album die meisten Käufer immer und immer wieder abspielen werden. Jahrelang.Jahrzehnte lang?
Gut, dass die CD keine Rillen hat.....

Fehlkauf - Ist das wirklich Steven Wilson?

Bislang konnte man blind alles von SW kaufen. Beim hören der CD - auch beim zweiten Male - war ich mir nicht sicher, ob bei der Produktion etwas vertauscht wurde. Auf dem Cover steht zwar SW, aber die Musik ist....na ja, extrem anders.
Was man hier zu hören bekommt ist eine Mischung aus Pop und Disco, bis auf ein Lied ist man sich garnicht sicher ob er da auch selber singt. Schade drum. Eigentlich sollte man sein Konsumverhalten ja nicht so gestalten, aber ins Regal kommt mir diese CD nicht sondern quasi fabrikneu nach zweimaligen Lauschen auf den Wertstoffhof. Vielleicht findet sich ja jemand.

SW hat das Songs schreiben völlig verlernt

Steven Wilson geht einen neuen Weg - leider hat er dabei völlig verlernt, anspruchsvolle Songs aus dem Prog Bereich und überhaupt zu schreiben. Disco-Pop Musik und Larifari-Mucke? Nein danke. Musik für die Mülltonne.

Great (surprise) album!

Well, you either hate this album or love all the way. It`s so much different from his previous works and PT.
On the other side it is still same Steven Wilson, but playing different toys and in nother backyard.

Je nach Zielgruppe variiert wohl die Bewertung....

2017 irritierte Steven Wilson mit seiner auf dem Album TO THE BONE eingeläuteten Abkehr von Prog Rock und New Artrock seine ihn fast schon kultisch verehrende Stammhörerschaft. Auf seinem neuen Album geht Steven Wilson diesen Weg nun weiter und präsentiert elektronische Klangwelten und auf den 80er-Jahren basierende Popsongs (auch das Cover steht in direktem Zusammenhang zur Vorgängerscheibe). Wie immer macht sich Wilson Gedanken um den aktuellen Zustand der Welt, hier prangert er die digital beeinflusste Kommunikation und die Shoppinglust-Auswüchse an. Die klangliche Umsetzung ist natürlich brillant, allerdings ist der musikalische Inhalt leider oft zu flach, keine interessanten Widerhaken fesseln die Sinne. Wer auf synthetisch generierten Elektropop steht kann fündig werden, allerdings fehlen Wilson solch geniale Hooks wie die seiner Vorbilder Tears Of Fears oder Talk Talk. Ob Wilson damit seinen 2017 angekündigten Weg zum Pop-Star einen Schritt näher kommen wird? Zumindest hat er Elton John für die ironische Aufzählung unnötiger Utensilien, die das Netz anbietet, gewinnen können. Gerade Elton John, der für seine ungehemmte Kauflust bekannt ist, beweist damit durchaus Selbstironie – ob allerdings auch Einsicht folgt? Seine Prog-Fans werden sich wohl einen neuen Helden suchen müssen.

The obessive urge of mister Steven Wilson to look for other directions.

I have been a fan of Porcupine Tree since the beginning and saw them play in rooms where we were listening with 30 people. I also thoroughly enjoyed Seven Wilson solo. At many concerts he made jokes about the gloomy lyrics he wrote and that he was simply prog. I liked his previous album a lot less and especially after the sublime Hand cannot erase. His new album sounds more electronic, nothing wrong with that since I am also a fan of Tangerine Dream. I like the concept of the album but think it is musically superficial. The obessive urge of mister Steven Wilson to look for other directions makes this album feel forced and because of this there is no more tension in the music that is present on all his other albums.
