TRANSATLANTIC played a very successful and much talked about European tour in 2010. For all the fans who were not able to attend one of those unique concerts and for those who would like to re-live this mind-blowing experience some of the shows were recorded. The material was so overwhelming that – after the release of “Whirld Tour 2010 – An Evening With Transatlantic” - the band as well as the label decided to release more great material for the fans and prog music lovers out there.

The band stated: "Another 5 Disc Live extravaganza from the Prog Supergroup Transatlantic? Unbelievable!!! Sometimes when you are on tour you have the best gigs when the cameras aren't rolling. Such was the case with the Transatlantic Whirld Tour one fateful night in Manchester, England. It was the last concert of a long tour and as Rich Mouser said, as we came off stage, "Man, you guys really nailed it tonight!" So, this is the complete audio from Manchester, spread over 3 CDs, as well as a beautifully shot 2 DVD compilation from the famed, sold out concert in Tilburg, The Netherlands. Also included are great and hilarious excerpts from other gigs, featuring Mike Portnoy stage diving in Cologne, packaged in a gorgeous 5 Disc Digi-book. This is one the fans are going to love!!!"

Begeisterte und mit überbordende Spielfreude

Gerade eben hat man sich die DVDs von der Whirldwind-Tour reingezogen, da schieben die vier von Transatlantic nochmals ein fettes Musikpaket nach: Das komplette Manchester-Konzert von 2010 auf CD plus Tilburg in Holland via DVD plus etliche Bonus-Schmankerl für die harten Fans von den weiteren Gigs von Stuttgart, Köln oder Pratteln etwa. Besonders reizvoll finde ich, dass ein Konzert in seiner Gänze enthalten ist und die Songs nicht, wie oft bei Live-Alben, von verschiedenen Gigs zusammengeschnitten werden, so nach dem Motto, der Song X klang beim Konzert Y nicht gut, nehmen wir den vom Konzert Z. Dieses Problem gibt es bei Transatlantic offenbar nicht. Und so kann man das Konzert von Anfang bis Ende sehr schön nachvollziehen und genießen, gerade auch, wenn man nicht selbst dabei war. Was die Songs angeht, da geht die Band in die Vollen und zelebriert begeistert und mit überbordender Spielfreude die Ultralongsongs wie "Whirlwind" (fast 80 Minuten lang!), "Bridge" oder "Stranger" und kann, wenn ich an die anderen Versionen denke, den Stücken durchaus noch neue Facetten abgewinnen. Wie gebannt die Manchester Fans waren, merkt man auch an den leisen bzw. ruhigen Passagen der Lieder – da wird nicht gepfiffen oder geschrien, da ist es nahezu mucksmäuschenstill. Insgesamt ein schönes Doppelpaket, der letzte Live-Release und dieser hier, der uns für die nächsten Jahre ausgiebig mit Transatlantic versorgt haben wird... Wem bereits die Whirlwind-Tour-DVD gefiel, der kann hier bedenkenlos zugreifen.

Wow

Bereits 2010 erschien mit “Whirld Tour 2010” eine herrliche 3-CDs/2-DVDs-Box, die die grandiose Tour der All-Star-Prog-Band mit einem Konzert in London vorbildlich dokumentierte. Nun beglücken Transatlantic ihre Fans mit einer weiteren Box in gleichem Umfang. Diesmal steht das letzte Konzert der Europa-Tour in Manchester im Mittelpunkt – ebenfalls im Mai 2010 aufgezeichnet, wie auch der Gig der ersten Box. Nun kann man darüber diskutieren, ob dies Abzocke ist, denn es wird genau das gleiche Programm gespielt, also das unglaubliche 3,5-Stunden Set mit nur sechs Tracks. Bei derart komplexem Songmaterial ist natürlich Disziplin angesagt, doch ist bei solch spielfreudigen Virtuosen klar, dass Varianten eingebaut wurden. So ist zum Beispiel das Akustik-Gitarren-Duo zu „We All Need Some Light“ zwei Minuten länger, als auf der ersten Veröffentlichung. Fans, die diese Feinheiten heraushören möchten, sowie Prog-Liebhaber, die die erste Box noch nicht ihr Eigen nennen, können auch bei „MORE NEVER IS ENOGH“ bedenkenlos zugreifen.

nochmal das ganze?

es ist ein wenig frech, zur selben tour, eine weitere live box aus 3 cds und 2 dvds zu veröffentlichen. zumal die 3 cds exakt die selben tracks aufweisen als die erste livebox (An Evening with... Whirld Tour 2010). die 3 cds dieser box wurden in manchester, die 2 dvds in tilburg aufgenommen. auf den cds finden sich minimale unterschiede in den soli, mike portnoy versucht sich als sänger einer sequenz aus hair. die dvd beinhaltet 3 kleine outtakes.
alles in allem wirklich nett, gute musik, tolle aufnahme, aber wohl nur für sammler, da kaum unterschiede zur ersten livebox.
