Die Prog Rock Band hatte mit dem Vorgänger »Leftoverture« von 1976 ungeheuren Erfolg eingefahren und hatte es dementsprechend nicht mehr ganz so dringend darauf abgesehen, einen Hit zu landen.
Trotz allem waren die Sessions für ihr fünftes Album angespannt. Steve Walsh verließ inmitten dieser Sessions die Band für kurze Zeit.
Trotz allem entpuppte sich das Album als noch größerer Erfolg als sein Vorgänger. »Point Of Know Return« sollte der größte Charterfolg für Kansas werden, sich vier Millionen Mal verkaufen und Vierfach-Platin einfahren.
Die Tour zum Album brachte die Band in so grandiose Stadien wie den Madison Square Garden und das LA Forum.
Zu dieser Zeit wurden die Songs der Band regelmäßig im Radio gespielt; die Band galt als spektulärster Rockact dieser Zeit.
»Dust In The Wind« sollte zur Hitsingle des Albums werden.
