Obwohl sich Thad Jones 1956 mit dem Orchester von Count Basie einen Namen machte, als er sein Debütalbum bei Blue Note aufnahm, kommt sein brillanter und origineller Trompetenstil erst in der kleinen Gruppe richtig zur Geltung. Mit seinen Kollegen aus Detroit, Billy Mitchell und Barry Harris, sowie den Musikern Percy Heath und Max Roach spielt er brillante und einfallsreiche Arrangements für die meisten Standards. Zwei Bonustracks wurden hinzugefügt, darunter ein schönes Duett mit Kenny Burrell.
