Für den Rest der 80er und bis in die 90er Jahre kehrte Corea mit seiner Elektric Band, bestehend aus dem Schlagzeuger Dave Weckl, dem Saxophonisten Eric Marienthal, dem Bassisten John Patitucci und dem Gitarristen Frank Gambale mit Nachdruck in die Fusion-Arena zurück. Gemeinsam nahmen sie fünf beeindruckende Werke auf, die Fusion auf ein ganz neues Niveau hoben, darunter Elektric Band von 1986, Light Years von 1987, das hervorragende Eye of the Beholder von 1988, Inside Out von 1990 und Beneath the Mask von 1991.
