Am 15. Oktober 1965 nahm der Meister des Tenorsaxophons und Komponist Wayne Shorter The All Seeing Eye auf, ein brillantes und ehrgeiziges, vielschichtiges Album für Blue Note. Shorters Ziel für das Album war es, "eine breitere Palette von Farben und Texturen" zu verwenden und gleichzeitig seine Erkundungen über "das Leben, das Universum und Gott" fortzusetzen.

Unterstützt wird Shorter bei seiner Suche von Freddie Hubbard an der Trompete, Grachan Moncur III an der Posaune, James Spaulding am Altsaxophon, Herbie Hancock am Klavier, Ron Carter am Bass, Joe Chambers am Schlagzeug und, bei einem Stück, Waynes Bruder Alan Shorter am Flügelhorn.

Die Tone Poet Audiophile Vinyl Reissue Series von Blue Note Records wird von Joe Harley produziert und bietet rein analoge, von den Original-Masterbändern gemasterte, audiophile 180g-Vinyl-Neuauflagen in einer luxuriösen Gatefold-Verpackung. Das Mastering wird von Kevin Gray (Cohearent Audio) durchgeführt und das Vinyl wird bei Record Technology Incorporated (RTI) hergestellt.

Must-Have abseits des Jazz Mainstreams

Nein, das ist nicht wie „Speak No Evil“ etc. Frei und avantgardistisch geht es hier zu und fordert den/die geneigten Hörer:in. Aber es lohnt! Klanglich auf dem hohen Tone Poet Niveau und presstechnisch eine der besseren RTI Pressungen. Definitiv ein Must-Have für Jazzfans abseits des Mainstreams.

Starker Avantgarde - Modern Jazz

Dieses Album, mit Freddie Hubbard, Alan Shorter (flgh on #5), Grachan Moncur III (trb), James Spaulding (as), Herbie Hancock, Ron Carter und Joe Chambers. am 15.10 1965 aufgenommen, unterscheidet sich doch erheblich von seinen sonstigen Alben. Es ist eine Mischung aus Modern-Jazz mit Avantgarde-Jazz, ein wenig "free". Auch sehr gut, aber es verwundert nicht, dass keines der Stücke des Albums zum Klassiker wurde (würde mich mal interessieren, wie diese Stücke als Noten aussehen würden - vermutlich schwere Kost ! ). Trotzdem - alles andere als die volle Punktzahl der fünf Sterne wäre ein Witz.
