Grace Williams’ lebenslanges Interesse an der Vokalmusik ist zweifellos auf ihre Erziehung in Wales zurückzuführen. Die Originalwerke, die hier in ihren Ersteinspielungen zu hören sind, umspannen die gesamte Bandbreite ihrer Karriere, von ihrer frühesten überlieferten Komposition in einem beliebigen Genre bis zu Fear no more the heat o’ the sun von 1967. Williams’ Volksliedarrangements waren oft Auftragsarbeiten für BBC-Kindersendungen, und obwohl ihr handwerkliches Können unabhängig vom Herkunftsland des Liedes offensichtlich ist, ist ihre stilistische Handschrift am deutlichsten bei ihrer zurückhaltenden Vertonung des schönen walisischen Liebesliedes Cariad Cyntaf zu hören.
