Brittens Bearbeitungen von Liedern und Gesängen Purcells entstanden größtenteils für Konzerte mit seinem Partner Peter Pears und anderen befreundeten Sängern. Sie sind faszinierendes Zeugnis eines musikalischen Dialogs zweier Komponisten, zwischen denen mehrere Jahrhunderte liegen. Der Pianist Joseph Middleton führt hier eine erlesene Sängerriege an, welche die Qualität der Bearbeitungen unterstreicht.
