The SACD uses a higher digital resolution than the audio CD and also offers the possibility to store multi-channel sound (surround sound). To enjoy the music in high-end quality, a special SACD player is required. Thanks to the hybrid function, most of the products marked "SACD" in our store can also be played on conventional CD players. In this case, however, the sound does not differ from that of a normal CD. In case of deviations, we point this out separately (non-hybrid).

Mit der englischen Stadt Birmingham ist Felix Mendelssohn durch Aufenthalte in den 1830er und 1840er Jahren, besonders aber durch die Uraufführung seines Oratoriums Elias verbunden, so dass man zu Recht von einer Mendelssohn-Stadt sprechen kann. In der historischen Town Hall fanden denn auch die Aufnahmen zur Gesamteinspielung der Sinfonien Mendelssohns mit dem City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra unter Edward Gardner statt. Folge zwei bietet mit dem Vorspiel zu Victor Hugos Tragödie Ruy Blas eine wirklich hörenswerte Rarität, die völlig zu Unrecht im Schatten der übrigen Ouvertüren des Komponisten steht.
