Le Nozze di Figaro ist der erste Teil einer Trilogie von Lorenzo da Ponte und Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart über menschliche Beziehungen. Die Oper ist eine turbulente Komödie mit erotischen Verwicklungen, die schon zu Mozarts Zeiten keine harmlose Komödie war. Regisseur Martin Kusej verlegt das Liebes- und Eifersuchtsdrama in ein mafiöses Großstadtmilieu, in dem die Konflikte mit Pistolen ausgetragen werden. Der junge französische Dirigent Raphael Pichon, »O-Ton-Experte« (Der Tagesspiegel) steht zum ersten Mal am Pult der Wiener Philharmoniker und leitet ein junges Sängerensemble um den Clanchef Almaviva.
