Vergessenes Meisterwerk
Gemeinsam mit Edward Elgar zählt Hubert Parry (1848–1918) zu den bedeutendsten englischen Oratorienkomponisten, wie sein Opus Judith, eine Auftragskomposition des Birmingham Festivals, eindrucksvoll zeigt. Das größtenteils von ihm selbst verfasste Libretto kombiniert dramaturgisch geschickt die biblischen Geschichten von Manasse und Judith. Obwohl die Uraufführung 1888 ein überwältigender Erfolg mit zahlreichen Folgeaufführungen war und Parrys Reputation als führenden englischen Chorkomponisten bestätigte, geriet das Werk nach seinem Tod schnell in Vergessenheit, so dass es sich hier tatsächlich um die Ersteinspielung des Meisterwerks handelt.
