DiDonato und die eigens für dieses Projekt gegründete sechsköpfige Band verquicken auf Songplay italienischen Barock, Jazz, Pop sowie latein-amerikanische Rhythmen und schlagen dabei mit ihrem ganz eigenen Stil musikalische Brücken zwischen 400 Jahren Musikgeschichte.
Nach großen Opern, Oratorien und herausragenden klassischen Liedrecitals fügt die Sängerin ihrer Diskografie nun etwas völlig Neues hinzu: Es sind im Wesentlichen zwei Welten, die Joyce DiDonato, begleitet von Keyboards, Schlagzeug, Bass, Bandeon und Trompete und in Arrangements von Craig Terry, hier vereint: Zum einen die Welt des Jazz mit Songs von Shearing,
Ellington, Richard Rodgers und anderen, zum anderen die selbst vielen Klassik-Kennern nicht besonders geläufige Welt barocker oder frühklassischer Komponisten. Die sogenannten Arie antiche („alte Arien“) bieten eine Fülle
wunderschöner Melodien, an denen Gesangsvirtuosen traditionell ihre Stimmen schulen.
