Bianca e Fernando, ein Auftragswerk für die Einweihung des Theaters Carlo Felice im Jahr 1828, wurde zu Beginn von Bellinis Karriere als einer der wichtigsten Opernkomponisten des 19. Jahrhunderts komponiert. Die großartige Musik zu dieser dramatischen Geschichte von kindlicher Liebe, bösen Intrigen und dem Triumph über die Tyrannei wurde mit dem »Jubel und der Bewunderung der Bürger von Genua« aufgenommen und von Donizetti sehr bewundert, was Bellini in ganz Italien und darüber hinaus Anerkennung einbrachte. Diese gefeierte moderne Erstaufführung bringt kostbare verlorene Seiten der Musik ans Licht und lässt das ursprüngliche »glanzvolle Fest« der Uraufführung wieder aufleben.
