Rundum überzeugend
Für eine Produktion am King’s Theatre hatte Händel eine Mischfassung seiner italienischen Serenata Aci, Galatea e Polifemo HWV 72 und der englischen Masque Acis and Galatea HWV 49a erstellt, die 1732 mit einer Starbesetzung (u. a. mit Senesino) mehrmals halbszenisch mit großem Erfolg aufgeführt wurde. Die musikalisch reizvolle Fassung HWV 49b krankt für heutige Ohren nicht zuletzt an der Mixtur aus englischem und italienischem Text. Ganz im Sinne Händels wurde hier eine rein italienische Fassung erstellt mit Ergänzungen aus italienischen Werken des Komponisten. Das Ergebnis überzeugt ebenso musikalisch wie szenisch und hätte verdient, eine eigene Nummer im Werkverzeichnis zu erhalten.
