Unsere letzte Zusammenarbeit mit den Solisten und Ensembles des Boston Early Music Festival wurde gleich mit zwei renommierten Preisen belohnt. Die Einspielung von Charpentiers Opern »La Descente d’Orphée aux Enfers« und »La Couronne de Fleurs« wurde im Februar 2015 mit dem Grammy Award für die ›Beste Opernproduktion‹ ausgezeichnet und bekam jetzt auch kürzlich noch den Klassik-Echo 2015, auch für die „Beste Operneinspielung des Jahres“. Schon zuvor waren Produktionen von cpo & BEMF für Gramophone Awards nominiert. In der Kategorie ›Beste Opernproduktion‹ waren dies »Ariadne« von Johann Georg Conradi sowie »Thesee« und »Psyche« von Jean-Baptiste Lully. Außerdem erhielten »Thésée« und »Psyché« Nominierungen in der Kategorie ›Barocke Vokalwerke‹. Jetzt widmet sich das amerikanische Ensemble zusammen mit erfolgreichen Solisten wie Aaron Sheehan und Teresa Wakim der Oper „Acis and Galatea“ von Händel in der Version von 1718, das für den Landsitz des Earl of Carnarvon (ab 1719 Duke of Chandos) entstand und das keine musikalischen Gemeinsamkeiten mit der früheren Komposition hat. Sowohl Acis and Galatea als als auch die hier zu hörende Kantate Sarei troppo felice zeichnen kritische Wendepunkten in Händels Karriere. Die italienische Kantate steht am Anfang der anderthalb Jahrzehnte von 1706 bis 1720, die Händel im Dienste verschiedener Mäzene zubrachte. Acis and Galatea markiert den Höhepunkt dieser Phase und läßt daher - wie schon die Kantate - ganz direkt die musikalischen Mittel erkennen, die ihm in den privaten Einrichtungen seiner Dienstherren zur Verfügung standen. Zugleich enthält Acis and Galatea die musikalische und textliche Saat der englischen Oratorien, die nach 1742 die Opernkompositionen vollständig verdrängten.

New Release from the Prizewinning BEMF

Our previous release with the soloists and ensembles of the Boston Early Music Festival was awarded two prestigious prizes. The recording of Charpentier’s opera La Descente d’Orphée aux Enfers and La Couronne de Fleurs received the Grammy Award for the »Best Opera Production« in February 2015 and recently won the Klassik-Echo 2015, again for the »Best Opera Recording of the Year.« Prior to this double success, other productions by cpo & BEMF had been nominated for Gramophone Awards. In the category of the »Best Opera Production« these were Ariadne by Johann Georg Conradi and Thésée and Psyché by Jean-Baptiste Lully. In addition, Thésée and Psyché received nominations in the category honoring »Baroque Vocal Works.« Now the American ensemble has joined forces with successful soloists like Aaron Sheehan and Teresa Wakim for our production of Handel’s opera Acis and Galatea in the version of 1718, which was composed for the landed estate of the Earl of Carnarvon (from 1719 Duke of Chandos) and does not recycle music from the earlier version. Both Acis and Galatea and the cantata Sarei troppo felice heard here represent decisive turning points in Handel’s career. The Italian cantata came at the beginning of the one and half decades spent by Handel in the service of various patrons. Acis and Galatea marks the highpoint of this phase and therefore, like the cantata before it, clearly renders recognizable the musical means available to him in the private ensembles of his employers. Moreover, Acis and Galatea contains the musical and textual seeds of the English oratorio, which after 1742 completely supplanted opera compositions.
