Der deutsche Komponist Joseph Martin Kraus, der einen Großteil seines Arbeitslebens in Stockholm verbrachte, kann als einer der innovativsten und ungewöhnlichsten Komponisten des achtzehnten Jahrhunderts angesehen werden. Im Vergleich zu vielen seiner Zeitgenossen schrieb Kraus eine relativ kleine Menge an Musik für Pianoforte, wie sie auf dieser Aufnahme zu hören ist. Was ihm an Output fehlte, machte er jedoch durch schiere Qualität wett. Während er die zahlreichen populären Stile seiner Zeit aufnahm, weist Kraus' einzigartiges Werk viele unerwartete und dramatische stilistische und harmonische Mittel auf, die die Musik des folgenden Jahrhunderts vorwegnehmen.
The German composer Joseph Martin Kraus, spent much of his working life in Stockholm and may be considered one of the most innovative and unusual composers of the eighteenth century. In comparison with many of his contemporaries, Kraus wrote a relatively small amount of music for pianoforte as represented on this recording. However, what he lacked in output he made up for in sheer quality. While absorbing the numerous popular styles of the time, Kraus' unique output features many unexpected and dramatic stylistic and harmonic devices that anticipate music of the following century.
