Die Produktion war eine der aufwendigsten, die jemals auf der englischen Bühne geboten wurde: Ausstattung und Kostüme (mit Feuerwerken und künstlichen Wasserspielen) verschlangen Unsummen. »The Fairy Queen« kann sowohl als Oper, als Bühnenmusik zu einem Schauspiel oder als ausgebautes Ballett angesehen werden. Gelegentlich wird dieses Werk heute auf Festivals für Alte Musik aufgeführt. Die Aufnahme unter der Leitung von Sir Roger Norrington stammt aus dem Jahre 1993 und wird jetzt auf Midprice wiederveröffentlicht.
