Marta Domingos berühmte Produktion dieser Operette hat dazu beigetragen, dieses Stück mehr und mehr zu Standard Opernrepertoir werden zu lassen. Das Werk ist gespickt mit üppigen Melodien im Stile Puccinis, wenn auch in einer etwas leichteren Art geschrieben als vom italienischen Komponisten gewohnt. Domingos kontrovers diskutierte Produktion schliesst mit dem tragischsten der drei Enden ab, die Puccini für das Werk geschrieben hat und ist damit die einzige erhältliche Veröffentlichung dieser Fassung auf DVD.
