Biografie
Deborah Ellis ist Schriftstellerin und Psychotherapeutin in Toronto, wo sie die Organisation "Frauen für Frauen in Afghanistan" gründete. 1999 verbrachte sie viele Monate in afghanischen Flüchtlingslagern in Pakistan und Russland, bevor sie diese Geschichte schrieb. Ellis führte Gespräche mit Frauen und Mädchen und traf die Mutter und die Schwester eines Mädchen, das eine ähnliche Geschichte erlebte wie Parvana, die Protagonistin des Romans.
