Wie viele Debütalben der Wings, die 1971 veröffentlicht wurden, war auch »Wild Life« kein wirklicher Vorgeschmack auf das, was noch kommen sollte, denn Paul hatte die Absicht, das gesamte Werk schnell aufzunehmen. »Wild Life« dauerte nur zwei Wochen und war von Spontaneität geprägt: Das Eröffnungsstück »Mumbo« wurde in einem einzigen Take aufgenommen.
