Als Whitesnake mit ihrem Album »1987« die ganze Welt eroberten, hatten sie bereits eine ganze Reihe von Top-10-Alben im UK, in Europa und in Japan veröffentlicht und genossen Rock-Kultstatus. Nach dem mit US-Doppelplatin ausgezeichneten Slide It In, das in die US-Top-40 ging, knackte »1987« auch die restlichen Hürden: Kurz nach der Veröffentlichung im April 1987 katapultierte es sich auf Platz 2 der US-Billboard-Charts (bis heute gab es 8 Mal Platin) und ebnete die Bahn für überwältigende Single-Erfolge: Still Of The Night, Give Me All Your Love, Is This Love (US #2) und den Number 1-Hit Here I Go Again!
