Neben den Cashs und den Wainwrights sind die Thompsons die bedeutendste
Singer-Songwriter-Familie. Am 5.12 erscheint von den Thompsons ein neues Album mit dem programmatischen Titel »Family«. Neben Initiator Teddy Thompson schrieben auch seine Eltern Richard und Linda Thompson, seine Schwester Kami und ihr Ehemann James Walbourne sowie Neffe Zak Hobbs neue Songs für das Album.
Mit wechselndem Lead-und Background-Gesang aller Familienmitglieder und wechselseitiger musikalischer Ergänzung, ist den Thompsons ein großartiges Album zwischen Folk und Rock, Country und Blues gelungen. Vom eher poppigen »Careful« aus der Feder Kamis zum gewohnt brillanten Folk-Stil Richards auf »That’s Enough«; von der Ballade »Bonny Boys« (Linda) zum klassischen Country-Rocker »Right«, den Teddy beisteuerte. In ihrer Eigenheit verbindet die Songs eine ganz bestimmte Ästhetik. »Ich schätze, es gibt immer diese Folkrock-Sensibilität in dem, was die Thompsons machen«, analysiert Richard Thompson.
