Blu-ray Audio

Die Blu-ray Audio Disc (auch Pure Audio Blu-ray) ist technisch gesehen eine ganz normale Blu-ray Disc und lässt sich auf jedem Blu-ray-Player abspielen. Allerdings enthält sie keinen Videoinhalt. Die hohe Speicherkapazität wird für hochauflösende Audiodaten (Stereo und Surround, bis 24 bit/192 kHz) genutzt. Bedient wird sie entweder ohne Bildschirm wie eine herkömmliche CD oder über das Onscreen-Menü wie eine normale Blu-ray Disc.

Townshends und Entwistles Songs, das immer noch unbestreitbare Können aller Bandmitglieder in ihren jeweiligen Fächern und das Feeling, das The Who in jedem Song verbreiten – all das macht Who Are You zu am Ende doch zu einem Triumph. Wer bisher anderer Meinung war, sollte dieser Platte doch noch mal eine Chance geben. The Who sind The Who, unüberhörbar, auch hier.

Das achte Studioalbum von The Who wird in verschiedenen Formaten veröffentlicht, darunter eine Super-Deluxe-Edition mit über 70 unveröffentlichten Titeln, darunter bisher unbekannte Versionen des Titelsongs "Who Are You", neu abgemischte Live-Aufnahmen von ihrer ersten Tournee ohne den ursprünglichen Schlagzeuger Keith Moon und Aufnahmen der Band bei Proben in den Jahren 1977 und 1978. Ebenfalls enthalten in dem 7CD/1-Blu-ray-Audio-Set sind brandneue Atmos- und Stereo-Mischungen von Steven Wilson.

Das Album wird auch als Deluxe-4LP-Box-Set, als 2CD-Deluxe-Edition und als limitierte Half-Speed-Master-Vinyl veröffentlicht.

Diese umfangreiche Sammlung bietet einen beispiellosen Einblick in die Entstehung des letzten Studioalbums von The Who mit Keith Moon. Die acht Discs sind in einem 30x30 cm großen Schuber untergebracht und enthalten eine neu gemasterte Version des Albums sowie Demos und Outtakes aus den "Who Are You“-Sessions, in denen die Band die Songs entwickelte. Außerdem enthalten sind die Proben zur Shepperton-Tournee von 1977 und die Studioaufnahmen aus Shepperton von 1978, die für den Film "The Kids Are Alright“ gemacht wurden.
