Mit ihrem dritten Album „Fear And Whiskey“ (1985) avancierte die Ende der siebziger Jahre von Gitarrist JON LANGFORD in Leeds gegründete Formation THE MEKONS zu von Fans und Kritikern gefeierten Vertretern des Alternative Country. Ihr im darauffolgenden Jahr erschienenes Album „The Edge Of The World“ schließt stilistisch nahtlos an den erfolgreichen Vorgänger an und überzeugt - an der Schnittstelle zu (Post-) Punk, Alternative Rock, Folk, Country und Noise - mit zehn exzellenten Band-Kompositionen sowie den beiden Coverversionen „Sweet Dreams“ (DON GIBSON) und „Alone & Forsaken“ (HANK WILLIAMS), auf denen sich SALLY TIMMS und JON LANGFORD abwechselnd den Gesang teilen.

Unterstützt wurde die Band bei den Aufnahmen zudem von Drummer MARTIN HENDERSON (RED LORRY YELLOW LORRY, Bassist LU EDMONDS (3 MUSTAPHAS 3, BILLY BRAGG), Multiinstrumentalist JOHN GILL (BIG STICK) und DICK TAYLOR (THE PRETTY THINGS).
