Das Album ist eine Rückkehr zum einfacheren, traditionellen Rocksound der Kinks, der sich von dem theatralischeren Stil ihrer letzten Veröffentlichungen abhebt, und kombiniert Rock ›n‹ Roll mit härterem Rock, 50er-Jahre-Pop und Doo-Wop. Das Album ist eine nostalgische Reise durch die Kindheit und erzählt die Entstehungsgeschichte von Mr. Flash, dem Bösewicht aus früheren Kinks-Titeln, mit bekannten Titeln wie »I'm In Disgrace«, »No More Looking Back« und »Schooldays«.
