The Joy Formidable ist ein britisches Alternative-Rock Trio aus Wales bestehend aus Ritzy Bryan (Gesang, Gitarre), Rhydian Dafydd (Gesang, Bass) und Matt Thomas (Schlagzeug), das 2007 aus der New Wave/Post-Punk-Band Sidecar Kisses hervorging. Ihr neues Album »AAARTH« auf Hassle Records markiert eine transformative, fast psychedelische Wiedergeburt, die lang gehegte Wut kanalisiert und eine chaotische globale Periode der Ungerechtigkeit und Spaltung widerspiegelt und sie vor einer tiefgründigen Kulisse persönlicher Erfahrungen und Heilung stellt.
»AAARTH« vereint das Persönliche mit dem Mythischen und Symbolischen. Die bunte, mystische Collage ist inspiriert von ihrer Umgebung, von farbenfrohen Sonnenuntergänge und den Urelementen der Natur im Südwesten, die ihre Fantasie im Songwriting und in der Produktion gefestigt hat. Der Titel liegt irgendwo zwischen einem Schrei, einer Erhöhung, einem Wortspiel und dann diesem Bärenmotiv (»arth« auf Walisisch), das spirituell Stärke, Weisheit und Heilung symbolisiert.
