Entstanden aus der Asche der Beat Boom Hoffnung Mike Sheridan and The Night Riders Ende 1966 suchte die Band The Idle Race aus Birmingham nach einem neuen Gitarristen und fand den Teenager Jeff Lynne.
Heute wird das danach aufgenommene Album »The Birthday Party« als Klassiker des britischen Psychedelic Pop betrachtet und bekommt mit der neuen 2CD Veröffentlichung die Aufmerksamkeit, die es verdient.
Das Original Stereoalbum wurde mit alternativen Versionen und Singles ergänzt. Die Aufnahmen sind zum ersten Mal auf CD erhältlich und wurden von den Original Bändern gemastert. Ein Digipack mit 24-seitigem Booklet, unzähligen raren Fotos und Erinnerungen machen dieses 2CD Set zu einer wahren Fundgrube.
