The Animals sind eine der ganz Großen! Die Band wurde in den frühen 1960er Jahren in Newcastle upon Tyne gegründet und zog 1964 nach London, als sie berühmt wurde.
Die Animals waren bekannt für ihren düsteren, bluesigen Sound mit dem stimmgewaltigen Frontmann Eric Burdon, der mit dem Song »House of the Rising Sun« einen transatlantischen Nr. 1-Hit landete. Die Band schaffte den Spagat zwischen harten, rockigen Popsingles und rhythmus- und bluesorientiertem Albummaterial und war Teil der britischen Invasion in den USA.
»Live at the Club A Go-Go« wurde während eines Auftritts in einem Nachtclub in Newcastle im Dezember 1963 aufgenommen, einige Monate bevor sie ihre Debütsingle aufnahmen.
