Sam Cooke – auch bekannt als »King Of Soul« für seine markante Stimme – war sowohl als Sänger als auch als Komponist einflussreich und besonders wichtig für die Entwicklung der Populärmusik.
Wie die meisten R&B Künstler seiner Zeit konzentrierte sich Sam Cooke auf die Aufnahme von Singles, hatte 29 Top 40 Hits in den Pop Charts und sogar noch mehr in den R&B Charts. »Cooke's Tour« war Sam Cookes fünftes Studioalbum und sein Erstes für RCA Victor. Glen Osser schrieb die Arrangements und leitete das Orchester für die Aufnahmen zum Album, das aus einer R&B Rhythmus Abteilung und einem fünfzehnköpfigen Streicher Ensemble bestand.
Die Alben 1 bis 6 wurden von Vic Anesini remastert, 7 und 8 von Bob Ludwig, beides hoch angesehene Spezialisten in ihrem Bereich.
Die Box enthält ein 24-seitiges Booklet mit einer Story über Sam Cooke, wunderschönen Fotos und den kompletten Informationen zu allen acht CDs, die allesamt aus der »The RCA Albums Collection« stammen.
