Paul Is Live, aufgenommen während der Tournee als Support-Act von Off The Ground, war Pauls fünftes Live-Album und ist bekannt für die doppelte Bedeutung des Titels und das gerüchteträchtige Cover-Artwork.
Seit der Veröffentlichung von Abbey Road im Jahr 1969 gab es Verschwörungstheorien über Pauls vertuschten Tod. Der neue Titel war eine Möglichkeit mitzuteilen, dass dies ganz sicher nicht der Fall war. Auf dem Albumcover überquert Paul die gleiche Straße wie auf dem berühmten Abbey Road Cover, trägt dabei jedoch Schuhe und hält seine Zigarette diesmal in seiner linken Hand. Auf dem Cover von Abbey Road waren seine Füße nackt, und er hielt als Linkshänder die Zigarette in der rechten Hand, was laut den Theorien ein Hinweise darauf war, dass es sich nicht um den echten Paul handeln kann.
Neben einer Reihe von Solo-, Wings- und Beatles-Hits bietet das Album auch einen Einblick in die Soundchecks der Band, wobei die letzten drei Songs alle während der Proben an verschiedenen Orten auf der Tour improvisiert wurden.
