Auf Sympathy For Life tanzt der nachdenklich stimmende Rock von Parquet Courts zu einer neuen Melodie. Auf dem Album zeigt sich die Band aus Brooklyn sowohl instinktiv als auch elektronisch, indem sie ihr betörendes, psychedelisches Storytelling auf neues Terrain bringt und dabei ihre einzigartige Identität beibehält.
Das größtenteils aus improvisierten Jams entstandene, von New Yorker Clubs, Primal Scream und Pink Floyd inspirierte und in Zusammenarbeit mit Rodaidh McDonald (The xx, Hot Chip, David Byrne) und John Parish (PJ Harvey, Aldous Harding, Dry Cleaning) produzierte Album Sympathy For Life war schon immer dazu bestimmt, tanzbar zu sein. Im Gegensatz zu seinem weltweit verehrten Vorgänger Wide Awake! aus dem Jahr 2018 lag der Fokus auf Grooves und nicht auf Rhythmus.
"Wide Awake! war eine Platte, die man auf einer Party auflegen konnte", sagt Co-Frontmann Austin Brown. "Sympathy For Life ist von der Party selbst beeinflusst."
