Es wurde von Paul McCartney (der auf dem Album mitspielt und das meiste Material mit Mike schrieb) produziert und entstand unter Beteiligung von Linda McCartney und Wings. McGear war charmant, exzentrisch und einzigartig in gleichem Maße und war eines der großen Alben seiner Zeit. Das Album war seit über 20 Jahren nicht auf CD erhältlich. Diese besondere Neuauflage entstand mit Beteiligung von McGear.
Es enthält 21 zusätzliche Bonustracks, darunter 13 unveröffentlichte Outtakes, Tracks und Singles, die zum ersten Mal auf CD erscheinen. Das Set beinhaltet zusätzlich eine DVD mit einen Interview und dem Werbeclip von 1974 für die Single Leave It.
