Mit "Regions of Light and Sound of God" erscheint das erste Soloalbum des My Morning Jacket-Frontmanns Jim James.

"I wanted the album to sound like it came from a different place in time", so Jim James. "Perhaps sounding as if it were the past of the future, if that makes any sense - like a hazy dream that a fully-realized android or humanoid capable of thought might have when it reminisces about the good old days of just being a simple robot."

Nach über 15 Jahren und sechs Studioalben mit My Morning Jacket war es für Jim James an der Zeit seinen eigenen musikalischen Weg zu finden ohne dabei Kompromisse einzugehen, sondern musikalische Ideen nur nach seinen Vorstellungen umzusetzen: "so on MMJ records, I don’t have a need to play bass or keys or what have you. But as a person and as a musician, I love to play every instrument under the sun, and I wanted to make a record where I played all the instruments and produced / engineered it myself."

"Regions of Light and Sound of God" besteht aus neun Songs, die als Gesamtwerk musikalisch schwer einzuordnen sind. Der Sound ist komplex, aber in seiner Form zusammenhängend. Spielend sind die Übergange vom diffusen Space-Funk zum Folk und großen Pop-, R&B- oder sogar HipHop-Elementen.
