»Sound City« wurde ursprünglich 1976 aufgenommen, galt als verschollen und ist nun zum ersten Mal auf Vinyl erhältlich. Die Hollywood Stars wurden ursprünglich 1973 von Kim Fowley, einem Impresario und Hollywood-Größe, zusammengestellt (ähnlich wie er es mit den Runaways tat), und er, der schon immer auf der Suche nach Aufmerksamkeit war, stopfte ihre Auftritte im Whiskey A-Go-Go mit einflussreichen Leuten voll, zusammen mit den coolsten und buntesten Charakteren des Sunset Strip. Er wollte eine Westküstenversion der New York Dolls schaffen, nur ohne das Cross-Dressing, und sie hatten den Sound, den die Leute in LAs Wohlfühl- und Glitzer-Rock'n'Roll-Landschaft wollten.
