Wie der Titel des Albums schon vermuten lässt, ist das vierte Album düsterer geworden und versucht die unruhige Stimmung während seiner Entstehungszeit einzufangen.
»Dark Days + Canapés« ist ein Album, welches die Weiterentwicklung Obaros als Songwriter vorantreibt. Schon auf dem 2015er Album »Shedding Skin« war ein gitarrenlastiger Sound zu hören, der sich auf seinem neuen Album zu einem kompletten Bandsound vervollständigt.
Aus diesem Grund ist es auch nicht weiter verwunderlich, dass sich Ghostpoet Leo Abrahams (u.a. Zusammenarbeiten mit Brian Eno und Jon Hopkins) als Produzenten mit ins Boot geholt hat.
