1975 entstand in mehrmonatiger Studioarbeit das von Phil Spector produzierte Kult-Album. Anders als die vorherigen Folk-Alben war ›Born to Be With You‹ instrumental überfrachtet und gilt als einer der letzten Genie-Streiche Spectors. Sessions die von den für den Produzenten typischen Missständen begleitet waren – und mit deren Ergebnis der Künstler nicht zufrieden war, und das Album auch mal als ›Funeral Music‹ bezeichnete.
Mittlerweile von Bruce Springsteen, Bobby Gillespie (Primal Scream), Arctic Monkeys und Spiritualized's Jason Pierce geadelt, hat ›Born To Be With You‹ den Status eines ›dark brooding masterpiece‹. Eines das ursprünglich nur in England auf Phil Spector International erschienen ist. Jetzt gibt es nach dem 2001er CD-Release auf Ace auch endlich die LP!
