Del Shannon war ohne Zweifel eines der begabtesten musikalischen Talente, die in der Ära des US-Pop unmittelbar vor der "British Invasion" auftauchten. Darüber hinaus wurde er auch von der folgenden Musiker-Generation sehr bewundert, darunter George Harrison, Bob Dylan, Jeff Lynne, Tom Petty, Bruce Springsteen und Neil Young. Seine Songs beschrieben meist eine düstere Welt aus zum Scheitern verurteilter Romantik, verliebter Ernüchterung und existenzieller Düsternis.
Paradoxerweise wurden diesen Themen häufig überraschend optimistisch klingende Melodien gegenübergestellt. Das 12CD-Set mit 302 Titeln (!) ist ein Kompendium seiner gesamten Karriere, von seinen frühen Hits über seine Aufnahmen mit Andrew Loog Oldham Mitte der 60er bis zu seinen Aufnahmen mit Tom Petty, Mike Campbell sowie Jeff Lynne und Dave Edmunds in den 70ern und 80ern. Dazu auch alle seine 'Nashville Sessions', die meisten zum ersten Mal veröffentlicht, sowie B-Seiten, Demos und weitere acht bisher unveröffentlichte Tracks.
