Current Joys ist der Künstlername von Nick Rattigan, der auch eines der Hauptmitglieder von Surf Curse ist. Rattigan ist ein sehr produktiver Songwriter, Produzent, Performer und Musikvideoregisseur.
»Love & Pop«, das über Secretly Canadian erscheint, wird das zehnte Album von Current Joys in ebenso vielen Jahren sein. Für Love + Pop hat sich Rattigan stark von der Musik und dem Aufnahmeprozess von Lil Peep inspirieren lassen, das Album wird mit einer Coverversion von Lil Peeps »Walk away as the door slams« eröffnet.
Rattigan beschreibt ein unerbittliches, fieberhaftes Streben, diese Inspiration aufzugreifen und ein ausuferndes, unerwartetes Album zu machen, mit »einem klassischen Song im Stil von Current Joys und einem zehnminütigen House-Track auf derselben Platte. All diese Songs sind auch das Demo des Songs«, sagt Rattigan. »Sie sind der Anfang und das Ende.«
Was als singuläres Leidenschaftsprojekt begann, entwickelte sich für Current Joys unerwartet zu einer einzigartig kollaborativen Platte. Mit dabei sind Lil Yachty, Oddbody, Slow Hollows, Your Angel und Brutus VIII.
