Die sogenannte Supergroup, deren Mitglieder bereits in anderen Bands erfolgreich gewesen waren, spielte dieses Konzert nach Veröffentlichung ihres Comeback-Albums mit Neil Young (›American Dream‹ 1988). David Crosby (Ex-Byrds), Graham Nash (Ex-Hollies) und Stephen Stills (Ex-Buffalo Springfield) gründeten CSN 1968, kurze Zeit später kam Neil Youn dazu.

CSN(Y) waren immer auch für ihre politischen Songs (z. B. ›Wooden Ships‹, ›Ohio‹, ›Find The Cost Of Freedom‹, ›War Games‹) und ihren Protest gegen den Vietnamkrieg bekannt, was wesentlich zu ihrer Popularität in den späten 60er- und frühen 70er-Jahren beitrug.

1989 flogen Crosby, Stills & Nash anlässlich des Mauerfalls spontan nach Berlin, wo sie am 20. November am Brandenburger Tor ein Konzert gaben. Kurz zuvor fand dieser Benefiz-Gig in der United Nations General Assembly Hall statt, bei dem sie Highlights ihrer Alben, als auch Songs aus Nebenprojekten und Solowerken spielten. Darunter auch das Beatles-Cover ›Blackbird‹. WXRK Radio war für den Broadcast verantwortlich!
