Einen ebenbürtigen Nachfolger zu produzieren ist immense schwer. Davon kann Colin James nun ein Lied singen, denn -Blue Highways- war ein voller Erfolg, von Kritikern wie Fans gleichermaßen geliebt und verehrt. 10 Wochen war das Album an Platz 1 der Roots Music Reports Blues Charts in Kanada.
Ein guter Anfang schien zu sein, dass sich James wieder eine rote Gibson ES-335 zulegte, eine seiner ersten Gitarren die er einst verkaufen musste um seine Miete zu zahlen. Und von da an schien alles leichter .
Das neue Album vereint zwei brandneue Stücke (-I Will Remain- und -40 Light Years-) aus seiner eigenen Feder sowie neun Coverversionen, u.a. von Howlin Wolf, Muddy Waters, Blind Willie Johnson, Blind Lemon Jefferson, Little Willie John, Robert Johnson, etc.
Und Colin James hat seine eigene Auffassung vom Blues: -Blues has always been a pass-it-forward kind of thing ( ) You have to be careful how modern you get in your phrasing. Certain writers can write a song that sounds like it was done 40 years ago, but its deceptively hard.- Und dann überrascht er mit dem Satz: -Blues is the only genre where you can maintain a young profile at the age of 53.- Wie wahr
