Rock-Ikone Billy Idol veröffentlicht sein erstes Album seit fast einem Jahrzehnt. »Kings & Queens Of The Underground« wird auf Idols eigenem Label BFI Records via Kobalt Label Services erscheinen.

Vom Punk-Pionier zum globalen Superstar… Keine Frage, Wiliam Michael Albert Broad, besser bekannt als Billy Idol, hat in den letzten drei Jahrzehnten beeindruckende Spuren in der Musikwelt hinterlassen.
Der 1955 in Stanmore, Nord-London geborene Sänger, lebte in seiner Kindheit zunächst einige Jahre auf Long Island, New York, bevor es ihn auf die Insel zurückzog, wo er schnell zu einer der führenden Figuren der britischen Punk-Bewegung wurde. Als glühender Verehrer der Sex Pistols und Teil des berühmten Fan-Clubs Bromley Contigent fühlte sich Idol schnell zu Höherem berufen und führte dann auch von 1976 bis zum Split 1981 die Punk-Pioniere Generation X als Frontmann in die Schlacht. Getrieben von dem Willen, auch in den USA den Durchbruch zu schaffen, ging Idol fortan mit Gitarren-Genie Steve Stevens eine äußerst fruchtbare Partnerschaft ein, die mit Songs wie »White Wedding«, »Dancing With Myself«, »Flesh For Fantasy«, »Hot In The City«, »Eyes Without A Face«, »Rebel Yell« und »Cradle Of Love« einige der größten Rock-Hymen aller Zeiten hervorbringen konnte. Songs, die die Jahrzehnte überdauert haben.
Auch auf seinem neuen Album »Kings & Queens Of The Underground« zeigt Idol auf perfekte Weise, wie man schnodderige Punk-Attitüde mit Pop- und Rock-Mainstream perfekt verquicken kann.

»Kings & Queens Of The Underground« wurde zum größten Teil von Trevor Horn produziert. Für zwei weitere Songs, darunter auch die erste Single »Can’t Break Me Down«, arbeitete Idol mit Greg Kurstin zusammen. Das Artwork von »Kings & Queens Of The Underground« wurde von Straßenkünstler/Grafik-Designer Shepard Fairey entworfen.

Das Album wird fast zeitgleich zur lang erwarteten, selbst verfassten Autobiografie »Dancing With Myself« erscheinen.

Idol und seine Band, darunter natürlich auch sein langjähriger musikalischer Weggefährte und Lead-Gitarrist Steve Stevens, werden nach einigen viel umjubelten Dates im Sommer im November erneut nach Europa zurückkehren. Die Welttournee wird bis ins kommende Jahr 2015 fortgesetzt.

»Kings & Queens Of The Underground« was primarily produced by Trevor Horn, with Greg Kurstin also contributing as a producer to two songs, including the anthemic lead single, »Can't Break Me Down«. The artwork for »Kings & Queens Of The Underground«, above, was designed by street artist and graphic designer Shepard Fairey.

The album will arrive close to the release of Billy Idol's highly anticipated self-written autobiography, Dancing With Myself, which will be released worldwide the week of October 7.

Born in 1955 in Stanmore, North London, Idol spent several formative years living on Long Island, NY as a child before returning to the UK and emerging as a central figure of the British punk movement. As part of the infamous Bromley Contingent and a fan of the Sex Pistols, Idol was inspired to front the pioneering British punk band Generation X from 1976 until the band's split in 1981.
