»Blight Year« ist ein kosmischer Black-Metal-Bulldozer. Auf dem zweiten Album von Anti-God Hand hat Frontmann Will Frontmann Will Ballantyne den Tontechniker Colin Marston (Krallice, Indricothere, Gorguts, etc.) und Schlagzeuger Greg Fox (Liturgy, Ben Frost, Colin Stetson). Gemeinsam wechseln sie von stampfenden ungeraden Takt riffs in aufsteigende, weite Höhepunkte, die müde Black-Metal-Motive unterlaufen tropen unterlaufen. Ballantyne ist ein gefragter Künstler, der die Gitarre für Debby Fridays Durchbruchsalbum Good Luck (Sub Pop), schreibt und spielt elektronische Musik als City und macht Ausdauer performance-Kunst mit dem chinesischen Kollektiv Trance. Das Ergebnis ist eine ideologische und klangliche Kristallisation die den kosmischen Black Metal von Anti-God Hand zu etwas noch Nachdrücklicherem, Unverwechselbarem macht.
