Original-Hawaiianische Folkmusik basierte auf Liedern und Tänzen. Diese Art Musik wurde in der 1. Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts in den USA immer populärer. Sie hielt Einzug in mehreren Genres, darunter Jazz, Hillbilly, Blues und Western Swing. Gesangstechnisch führte dies zu Country-Jodelei, wurde aber ebenso auch in Pop-Balladen oder sogar gesungener Komik eingearbeitet.
Auf dieser 2CD sind diese Songs enthalten und nicht die für die 40er und 50er Jahre bekannten Songs aus den USA, deren hawaiianische Prägung nur aus Hawaii-Gitarren bestand.
