Sérgio Mendes: Dance Moderno / Orgao Espectacular auf CD

Zwei überaus wichtige und einflussreiche brasilianische Alben aus den Anfangstagen der Bossa Nova-Bewegung wurden auf dieser CD vereint:

Sergio Mendes' "Dance Moderno" und Ed Lincoln "Orgao Espectacular".

Bei "Dance Moderno" handelt es sich um Sergio Mendes' Albumdebüt. Mendes gelang der Brückenschlag zwischen Bossa Nova und 60er Pop. Gemeinsam mit seiner Gruppe Brasil '66 nahm er beispielsweise eine Version von Jorge Bens "Mas Que Nada" auf und stürmte damit die internationalen Charts. Der brasilianische Pianist und Organist Ed Lincoln wiederum arbeitete in den 50er und 60er Jahren mit Größen wie Luiz Bonfa, Baden Powell, Claudette Soares, Luís Eça, Maestro Radames Gnattali, Nara Leao, Carlos Lyra, Roberto Menescal, Joao Donato, Joao Gilberto oder Tom Jobim zusammen. Seine Fähigkeiten an der Hammond B3 Orgel waren legendär, und sein zweites Album "Orgao Espectacular" ist eine der aufregendsten Veröffentlichungen jener Zeit.

João Gilberto invented the clean, modernist style that defines bossa nova, using the guitar as a percussive as well as a harmonic instrument. He and his contemporaries; Baden Powell, Luiz Bonfá, Laurindo Almeida, Dilermando Reis and Carlos Barbosa Lima variously combined samba, choro and Afro-Bahian ritual music with Debussy, Ravel, bebop and swing to forge the style that seduced the world and changed the course of musical history.

Each of these Brazilian guitar masters point to the inspiration of Anibal Augusto Sardinha, Garôto, who, in blending traditional Brazilian music with jazz harmonies, anticipated by years the bossa nova conception.
