Celebration Castle continues on the same course as The Ponys' debut, elements of pop and punk styles of the '60s, '70s, '80s and '90s combined in a sound that's surprisingly non-retro and fresh. Celebration Castle promises to leave not a dry seat in the house. These Chicagoans must have gotten as in history class. They sound like '80s UK post-punks trying to sound like '60s US garage rockers. But The Ponys turn that spacetime vertigo into a Farfisa-fueled, fuzz guitar fantasy camp. The Ponys come on primal and fierce, feeding time-tested riffs (think Velvets, Standells) into a cyclotron of fuzzy distortion. These white punks are dope. Like Gang Of Four meets the Chocolate Watch Band.
