Lydia Loveless wuchs auf einer Farm in Coshocton, Ohio, auf. Ein kleines Nest, in dem man nichts anderes
tun konnte, als Musik zu machen. Ihrem Dad gehörte eine Country-Music-Bar, doch spätestens als Teenie
konnte Lydia keine Cowboys mehr singen hören, zog in die Stadt und entdeckte Punk für sich.
Ihr Debütalbum "Indestructible Machine" vereint Punk und Rock mit, genau, Country. Denn auch für Loveless gilt: "You can take the girl out of the country, but you can’t take the country out of the girl". Dabei klingt sie manchmal wie Neko Cases taffe kleine Schwester, ihr kabbeliges, dichtes Gitarrenspiel erinnert an den Televison-Gitarristen Richard Lloyd, und auch sonst fällt so manche neue Hymne für die Blank Generation ab.
Aber halt auch Country. Da offenbart sie ihre ganze Klasse, etwa auf "How Many Women", einem Song, der auch zu Loretta Lynn gepasst hätte, oder dem herzverschmerzten "Crazy" im singenden Tonfall der Appalachen.
