Das New Yorker Magazin "The Village Voice" meinte, Kobo Town vereine Neil Youngs Angstgefühl mit einem Instinkt für traditionellen Calypso, wie man ihn etwa von den Specials kenne. Tatsächlich bringt die Band um den trinidadisch-kanadischen Songwriter Drew Gonsalves eine ganz eigene Mischung aus Calypso, Roots-Reggae, Dub, akustischen Instrumenten, Indie-Rock und Folk-Attitüde auf die Bühne. Und natürlich auf Tonträger.
Seit ihrem Debüt 2007, das in Kanada für sämtliche Awards nominiert war, sind Kobo Town auf gutem Weg, sich auch außerhalb Amerikas einen Namen zu machen. Das zweite Album stellt erneut Gonsalves’ Liebe zum Calypso unter Beweis.
Zusammen mit Produzent Ivan Duran (der u. a. Andy Palacios mehrfach ausgezeichnetes Album "Wátina" produzierte) entstand auf "Jumbie In The Jukebox" ein etwas rauerer Sound, der sich sowohl der Tradition trinidadischer Musik als auch der Experimentierfreude und dem Lebensgefühl seiner Macher verpflichtet fühlt.
