„Sacco e Vanzetti“ ist ein 1971 von Giuliano Montaldo geschriebener und inszenierter Dokumentarfilm, der auf den Ereignissen rund um den Prozess und die Hinrichtung von Nicola Sacco und Bartolomeo Vanzetti basiert. Sie waren zwei Anarchisten italienischer Herkunft, die für die Ermordung einer Wache und eines Zahlmeisters während des bewaffneten Raubüberfalls vom 15. April 1920 auf die Slater and Morrill Shoe Company in Braintree, Massachusetts, zum Tode verurteilt wurden.

Der Soundtrack des Films wurde von Ennio Morricone komponiert und dirigiert, die Songtexte stammen von der amerikanischen Folk-Sängerin Joan Baez. Für den Text von „La Ballata Di Sacco E Vanzetti“ Teil 1 greift Baez auf Emma Lazarus' Sonett „The New Colussus“ von 1883 zurück, dessen Zeilen auf einer Bronzetafel im Sockel der Freiheitsstatue eingraviert sind. Dies ist eine der klassischsten Partituren, die der Maestro komponiert hat, mit großen Streicherarrangements und klassischen Gitarrenparts.

»Sacco e Vanzetti« is a 1971 docudrama film written and directed by Giuliano Montaldo, based on the events surrounding the trial and execution of Nicola Sacco and Bartolomeo Vanzetti, two anarchists of Italian origin, who were sentenced to death for murdering a guard and a paymaster during the April 15, 1920 armed robbery of the Slater and Morrill Shoe Company in Braintree, Massachusetts. The film's soundtrack was composed and conducted by Ennio Morricone with song lyrics by the American folk singer Joan Baez. For the lyrics of »La Ballata Di Sacco E Vanzetti Part 1«, Baez makes use of Emma Lazarus' 1883 sonnet »The New Colussus« the lines of which appear inscribed on a bronze plaque in the pedestal of the Statue of Liberty. This is one of the most classical oriented scores composed by the maestro, with large strings arrangements and classical guitar parts.
